How To Maintain Skinned Areas
Maintaining the skinned area of your infield can be broken down into a few steps and techniques that are individually unique to your availability to resources. Here they will be broken down into smaller steps.
Step 1: Remove bases. Rake or shovel excess dirt from under each base to make it level.
**Step 1 is very important! Raised bases are one of the leading causes of injury!**
Step 2: Remove any debris (Rocks, Grass Clippings, Weeds, etc.)
Step 3: Water skinned area for dust prevention. If the skinned areas are too hard, nail drag and then proceed to step 4.
Step 4: Add field conditioner if needed and available. (Conditioner is available for bulk delivery. Contact us for pricing).
Step 5: Screen or drag the infield. **Dragging patterns can be found on our "Field Dimensions" page.**
While Dragging, stay at least 6 inches away from the grass so that loose dirt does not form a lip or ridge at the grass line. Should this happen, take a stiff bristled broom to sweep dirt back onto the skinned area.
